Mr and Mrs Heathcliff

A painting for Emerald Fennell

The Story…

Another bold move on my part. Following the success of the deal with my painting for Del Toro, I emailed Fennell’s film agent after the release of her adaptation of Wuthering Heights in cinemas here in the UK, requesting a similar deal with them. Fennell’s films always have such artistic cinematography that I knew it would be a painter's dream to unpick the aesthetic of this other Gothic classic.

My idea was to create a painting that looked like it was from the film’s world. Something along the lines of a memorial to Cathy and Heathcliff’s love following Fennel’s ending to the film. I ended up using the promo photography for the pose reference, as it shows the two of them together in a more intimate pose without the camera view being cut off or an over-the-shoulder shot, and it also serves as a homage to golden Hollywood films such as Gone With the Wind.
