Second year trip:
Lisbon
As part of my Illustration degree at the Cambridge School of Art, I was offered the opportunity to travel to Lisbon for a week with my class and spend every day doing drawing and painting exercises around the city.
This was an incredible experience, and I feel lucky enough to have attended it. Below, I showcase my sketchbook spreads for the week, including notes, colour-matching swatches, drawing exercises, and more.
On my photography page, you can find photos I took on this trip and a travel vlog capturing the experience and my talented classmates.
Travel Vlogs!
I love making little videos of my travels, generally for my own memories but these videos have since been reposted by Cambridge School of Art and Kate Winter (BA Illustration course director) as a way to share our trip with the rest of the art school!
Two formats…
To make the content I captured on this trip more accessible for both my classmates and wider viewings I made the trip vlogs into two formats! One, a short 20 second short-form video with a trending Portuguese that my classmates could post on their pages if they wanted. The second; a longer video at 2:40 mins that fitted the trip in its entirety to share with the university and wider socials.
Lisbon Billboard Brief
For our first class brief back from the trip we were given a 2 week project to complete either a comic inspired by the city or an animated billboard advertising the city. Having had animation experience previously and with my end of term brief last year I chose to do the billboard.
To help structure the short animation I focused on my transitions between scenes. A tin of swimming sardines, a soaring plane and a rolling Pastel de Nata seemed to fit with the icons of the city! I think if I’d had more time I would have added a tram trundling across screen too!
